Jaafar Jackson discusses deleted scenes and sequel for ‘Michael’ biopic
Jaafar Jackson, who portrays his uncle Michael Jackson in the biographical film ‘Michael’, has addressed the removal of a significant portion of the original production. The actor revealed that an entire third act, which was intended to cover the singer's later life and address child sexual abuse allegations, was cut from the final version. This decision followed the discovery of a legal clause in a settlement with accuser Jordan Chandler that prohibited his depiction or mention in the film.
Jackson described the editing process as a valuable learning experience that helped him develop as a performer. The revised film now concludes during the ‘Bad’ tour, focusing on the singer's rise to global superstardom.
Regarding a potential sequel, Jackson stated he is ready to return to the role but has not received a concrete schedule. Lionsgate has confirmed a sequel is in development, with tentative production windows suggested for late 2026 or early 2027. The original biopic has become a major commercial success, becoming the first biographical film to surpass $1 billion at the global box office.
