Jabalpur Municipal Corporation to Manage All City Traffic Signals
The Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered that the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation assume full responsibility for operating and maintaining every traffic signal in the city. Funding of ₹1.5 lakh per signal per year will be provided by the Smart City Limited project and the traffic police. The court also directed the removal of any encroachments obstructing the signals.
The decision follows a public‑interest petition filed by Dr. P.G. Najpande and Rajat Bhargav, which highlighted that many of the 21 city signals were frequently non‑functional, causing congestion and an estimated loss of ₹5 lakh in monthly revenue. A joint meeting of the collector, Smart City co‑chair, municipal commissioner, and traffic officials approved the transfer of duties, with the next hearing scheduled for 7 September 2026.
