Jabloko party wins seat in Nizhny Novgorod regional Duma

The anti-war liberal opposition party Jabloko has secured a seat in the regional Duma of Nizhny Novgorod, receiving 6.38 percent of the vote. This result is considered significant as the party had been barred from participating in most regional and national elections by the Russian Supreme Court.

On a local level in Moscow, individual candidate Artjom Snegowskij is running for a direct mandate despite his party's exclusion from the Duma elections. Snegowskij, a 22-year-old economics student, is facing Pjotr Tolstoj, the Vice President of the Duma, in what is described as an unequal contest. Snegowskij has stated his candidacy is intended to provide a voice for those seeking peace and an end to the war in Ukraine.
