Jabloko party appeals exclusion from Russian parliamentary elections

The Russian Supreme Court is reviewing an appeal by the liberal opposition party Jabloko following its exclusion from the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for September 18-20. The exclusion follows a ruling in favor of a complaint by the pro-Kremlin ultranationalist Rodina party, which accused Jabloko of violating election laws, including copyright infringements and receiving undeclared foreign financing.

During the appeal proceedings in Moscow, Russian security forces detained dozens of people, including at least 35 supporters and Jabloko candidate Viktor Balabanov. Jabloko leader Nikolai Rybakov characterized the accusations as baseless and described the police actions as attempts at intimidation. The party, which advocates for a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine, is fighting to have its original registration reinstated by the court.
