Maextro V800 brake-pedal failures spark safety concerns

The Maextro V800, a luxury electric MPV developed through a partnership between Huawei and JAC Motors, is facing scrutiny following safety tests conducted by the Chinese automotive platform Dongchedi. During emergency braking tests from 100 km/h, three separate new vehicles experienced failures where the brake-pedal support brackets fractured.

Technical analysis suggests the failures occurred at the pivot area of the bracket, which was reportedly constructed from engineering plastic with insufficient reinforcement compared to other models. In one instance, the braking distance increased from approximately 38 meters to 140 meters after the failure. While some reports initially cited a peak force of 4,589 N, Dongchedi clarified this was a measurement error due to display refresh rates, stating the actual peak force at the time of breakage was 1,612 N.

Maextro has responded by stating that its braking systems meet or exceed national and industry standards and that no similar failures have been reported in daily consumer use. However, the company has committed to redesigning the component and will provide free upgrades to existing owners to increase safety redundancy. The incident has had financial implications, with JAC Motors seeing a significant drop in market value following the reports.
