Stargate revival at Amazon led by WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer
Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new Stargate television series, tapping Jac Schaeffer to lead the project. Schaeffer is widely recognized for creating the Marvel series WandaVision and Agatha All Along. The development of the series is part of her existing overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures are attached to executive produce alongside Schaeffer. A writers' room is expected to open in the near future to begin work on the project. While specific plot details and casting have not been disclosed, the series is intended to revitalize the science-fiction franchise for both longtime fans and new audiences.
This announcement follows a previous attempt by Amazon to revive the franchise. In late 2025, a series led by Martin Gero, a veteran of the Stargate franchise, was greenlit but subsequently canceled in June. Reports indicated that executives were concerned Gero’s vision might not have sufficient broad appeal beyond the existing fanbase. The decision to pivot to Schaeffer marks Amazon’s second major effort to bring the Stargate IP to streaming services.
