Jaciara road collapse swallows vehicle following heavy rains
Heavy rainfall and aging drainage systems caused a significant asphalt collapse on Avenida Coroados in Jaciara, Brazil. The sinkhole swallowed the front of a parked vehicle, which required a truck and ropes to be extracted.
The Municipal Planning Secretariat reported that high rainfall volumes caused cracks in old pipes that were scheduled for replacement. Water infiltration destabilized the ground during ongoing infrastructure works. The local government has isolated the area and notified the contractor to perform emergency repairs, while also coordinating compensation for the vehicle owner.
