Jack Bruggink appointed child mayor of Aalten, Netherlands

On Monday 29 June the municipality of Aalten installed a new children’s council and elected Jack Bruggink as its child mayor. Bruggink, an 8th‑grader at OBS De Slinger, won the jury’s vote with the slogan “More green, more fun, that’s what I focus on!”. The panel – chaired by Henk Rijks and including Martin Hüning and former child mayor Emma Rouwhorst – highlighted his ideas on traffic safety and play spaces.

Bruggink will wear the child‑mayor chain for the coming school year and represent the children of Aalten together with the newly appointed children’s council. The ceremony also marked the farewell of outgoing child mayor Emma Rouwhorst and the previous council members.
