Jack Chettleburgh released after domestic‑violence assault in Wodonga

Jack Chettleburgh pleaded guilty in the Wodonga Magistrates Court to biting, strangling and head‑butting his former partner during a violent attack in October 2023. The victim described being held by the throat for about ten seconds, having her hands and wrists bitten, and being head‑butted, which caused swelling and bruising. Chettleburgh, who had no prior criminal record, was sentenced to a period of detention but was released after serving more than 100 days on remand. He later sent the victim a social‑media friend request and threatened her again, including a recorded statement to the victim’s mother saying, “I’m gonna f---en kill her.” The magistrate, Megan Casey, called the strangulation “incredibly serious offending” and warned that such assaults can cause fatal injuries. The victim’s impact statement highlighted ongoing fear, anxiety and the inability to leave her home, noting she lived in “absolute terror.”
