Jack Draper struggles with chronic injury and ranking decline

British tennis player Jack Draper is struggling to rebuild his career following a series of debilitating injuries. After reaching a career-high ATP ranking of number four and winning Indian Wells in 2025, Draper has seen his ranking plummet to 143 due to persistent health issues.

The primary cause of his decline is a chronic bone edema in his left arm, the limb he uses to play. This condition makes service and baseline shots extremely painful and difficult to manage. Draper has also dealt with severe knee tendinitis, which forced him to miss major tournaments including Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Following recent losses in Montreal and at the Cincinnati Open, Draper spoke candidly to The Guardian about his emotional state, noting that he felt he no longer recognized himself on the court. He described the impact of chronic pain as something that has stripped him of his fighting spirit. His future participation in the US Open remains uncertain, as he may need to compete through the qualifying rounds.
