Jack Flaherty returns to Tigers for season finale

Detroit Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty returned to the mound on Sunday for the final game of the season, providing a brief appearance to demonstrate his health ahead of free agency. After being placed on the 15-day injured list in late July due to right flexor inflammation, Flaherty completed rehabilitation assignments with Triple-A Toledo.

In his return against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Flaherty pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one while using only 19 pitches. The appearance served as a personal milestone for the veteran pitcher, who had also dealt with left ankle and foot injuries during a difficult season.

Flaherty finishes the campaign with a 3-8 record and a 4.48 ERA over 88 1/3 innings. While the Tigers have been eliminated from postseason contention, the outing offers Flaherty a chance to prove his readiness for Major League hitters as he enters the offseason to seek a new contract.
