Jack in the Box offers free tacos following Simpsons merchandise shortage

Jack in the Box is offering free tacos to customers following a shortage of collectible merchandise from its recent collaboration with The Simpsons. The company launched the ‘Treehouse of Horror’ menu on September 10, featuring six special-edition glow-in-the-dark cups. However, the chain admitted it underestimated the demand for these items.

To compensate for the shortage, customers who purchase a Munchie Meal of Horror at locations without stock will receive a voucher for the missing cup. Upon returning to redeem the collectible once it is restocked, customers will also receive two free tacos.

This incident highlights the growing trend of scarcity marketing within the restaurant industry. While brands like Starbucks, Chipotle, and 7 Brew use limited-edition merchandise to drive traffic and social media engagement, these strategies can lead to logistical challenges, long queues, and customer frustration when supply fails to meet high demand.
