Jack Miller criticizes MotoGP promotional obligations and rule enforcement
MotoGP rider Jack Miller has criticized the increasing promotional demands placed on racers and the perceived lack of equal rule enforcement among competitors. The controversy stems from recent events at the Japanese Grand Prix, where Marc Márquez was absent from a mandatory promotional activity involving a karting race. While other riders participated, a team member dressed in Márquez's gear reportedly filled his place, drawing criticism on social media.
Miller expressed frustration regarding the disparity in how rules are applied, stating that no rider should be above the regulations. He noted that if all riders chose to skip mandatory events, such as the 'Hero Walk', the sport would lose credibility.
Additionally, Miller addressed the growing commercial burden on athletes. He argued that as riders are increasingly required to participate in media, sponsor, and fan events alongside their racing duties, their compensation should reflect this increased workload. He suggested that riders are currently being asked to do more while receiving proportionally less pay.
