Jack Quigley releases debut album as Josh Homme discusses musical identity
Melbourne-based artist Jack Quigley has released his debut album, ‘Upstream Vol 1’, the first installment of a planned trilogy. Described by the artist as ‘Anarcho-Pop’, the project is characterized by heavy collaboration with both local Australian and international artists from countries including Ethiopia, Egypt, Spain, and Somalia.
The album incorporates diverse musical elements such as jazz, flamenco, electropop, indie, and rock, drawing inspiration from Quigley’s travels through the Australian desert and various cities across Africa and Europe.
In separate music news, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age discussed his decision to move away from the stoner rock label. In a recent interview, Homme explained that while he respects Black Sabbath, he sought to avoid sounding like a ‘cover band’ by pursuing a more distinct sonic identity rather than adhering to the genre's established formulas.
