Jack Rooke developing Spice Girls comedy drama

Writer and creator Jack Rooke, known for the series ‘Big Boys’, has revealed he is developing a comedy drama centered on the Spice Girls. Speaking on the BBC Sounds podcast ‘Sidetracked With Annie And Nick’, Rooke described the project as more than a traditional music biopic, calling it a ‘fun comedy romp’.

Rooke stated that a script has already been written by himself and a group of collaborators. While he expressed that the project is a ‘dream and desire’, he noted that it has not yet been confirmed for production and remains in development.

He highlighted the cultural significance of the group, noting they represented a moment where working-class women displayed immense ambition within British pop culture. Rooke compared the potential scale of the project to upcoming films about The Beatles.
