Jack Schlitz Wins Nanaimo Bathtub Race After Rising from Last Place

Jack Schlitz claimed first place in the Great International World Championship Bathtub Race held in Nanaimo on July 26, completing the course in roughly 1 hour 24 minutes aboard bathtub number 805. He improved dramatically from the previous year, when he finished last with a time of about 2 hours 58 minutes.

Second place went to Justin Lofstrom (bathtub 340) with a time near 1:34:00, and third to Brandon Leigh (bathtub 555) at about 1:36:00. The race started at 11 a.m., requiring competitors to navigate a course that included Gallows Point, Entrance Island, Winchelsea Island and Neck Point before finishing at the beach beside Swy‑A‑Lana Lagoon. Greg Peacock, commodore of the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society, congratulated Schlitz and highlighted the year‑round preparation involved. Parliamentary certificates were presented by Nanaimo‑Ladysmith MP Tamara Kronis to the society in recognition of community contributors.
