Jack Viney eyes Melbourne Demons return after VFL comeback
Melbourne Demons vice-captain Jack Viney is attempting to return to senior football following a successful performance in the VFL. Playing for Casey, Viney recorded 19 disposals, one goal, and 10 clearances as he recovers from Achilles tendon and back issues.
Demons coach Steven King noted that while Viney’s availability is a positive, the decision to recall him for the upcoming clash against the Western Bulldogs involves considering team balance and match readiness. The Demons have won six of their last seven games and are currently contending for a top-four finish.
Viney would need to integrate into a midfield currently featuring Kysaiah Pickett, Tom Sparrow, Caleb Windsor, and Joel Fitzgerald. King emphasized the importance of ensuring Viney is fully prepared for the intensity of AFL competition compared to the VFL.
