Jack Viney joins West Coast Eagles after Melbourne departure

AFL veteran Jack Viney has departed the Melbourne Football Club to join the West Coast Eagles during the trade period. A father-son recruit who joined the Demons in 2012, Viney played 238 games, captained the club for three seasons, and was a member of the 2021 premiership team.

Viney’s recent season was significantly impacted by a serious Achilles injury, limiting him to a single senior appearance. Despite having two years remaining on his contract, he was advised to explore other options as his playing role could not be guaranteed. His move to West Coast includes a provision for two years as an assistant coach following the conclusion of his playing career.

In a social media message, Viney expressed gratitude to the Melbourne supporters and staff, noting that the club would always hold a special place in his heart.
