Jack Whaley wins US Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club

English golfer Jack Whaley has won the US Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania. Whaley, a 22-year-old from Doncaster and student at Florida State University, secured a 4&3 victory in the 36-hole final against American Jay Leng Jr.

Whaley’s win marks a significant comeback after missing the cut at the same championship last year. To reach the final, he had to navigate a 16-player playoff. Despite trailing by two holes after the first 18 holes of the final, Whaley staged a comeback in the second round, aided by back-to-back birdies.

The victory earns Whaley exemptions into the 2027 US Open and the British Open, with potential qualification for the Masters. He is the first English winner of the tournament since 2013.
