Jack White pays tribute to brother Eddie Gillis

Musician Jack White has announced the death of his older brother, Edward “Eddie” Gillis, who passed away following a battle with cancer. Gillis served as the manager of the Third Man Pressing plant in Detroit for 10 years, overseeing the production of hundreds of thousands of vinyl records for various artists.

White described Gillis as a “beautiful soul” and a “caring, funny and generous person.” Beyond his role at Third Man Records, Gillis was a former pastry chef for the Ritz-Carlton and Beaumont Hospital. He was also known for his creative hobby of crafting small sculptures and flowers from vinyl scraps at the pressing plant.

White, the youngest of ten siblings, credited Gillis with significant musical influence during their upbringing. The two musicians performed together on occasion, including a performance for the Detroit Tigers during spring training.
