Jackie Clarke stars in Joanna Murray-Smith play Songs for Nobodies

The one-woman musical production ‘Songs for Nobodies’, written by Australian playwright Joanna Murray-Smith, is currently performing at the Q Theatre. Performed by Jackie Clarke, the show explores the lives of five ordinary women whose lives are transformed through chance encounters with legendary musical icons.

The narrative follows five ‘nobodies’: Beatrice, who meets Judy Garland in a hotel; Pearl, an usher discovered by Patsy Cline; Junior Jones, an ambitious writer seeking Billie Holiday; Edie, an English librarian connected to Edith Piaf; and Orla, a nanny who meets Maria Callas on a yacht.

Clarke’s performance is noted for its versatility, as she portrays both the five ordinary women and the five musical stars. The production integrates iconic songs such as ‘Crazy’, ‘Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien’, and various arias to illuminate the emotional connections and resilience found within the characters' stories.
