Jackie Shroff attends Nagpur’s Marbat festival
Actor Jackie Shroff, accompanied by filmmaker Subhash Ghai, attended the centuries-old Marbat festival in Nagpur. Shroff praised the cultural celebration, stating that the tradition deserves global recognition and that “the entire world should know about this program.”
Celebrated annually during the month of Bhadrapada, the festival features vibrant processions through the streets of Nagpur. The event utilizes giant effigies known as Marbats, constructed from bamboo, paper, and cloth, to represent social evils and negative influences. Smaller effigies called Badgyas, symbolizing demons and negative tendencies, are also part of the procession.
The festival serves as a platform for social messaging and community unity. The celebrations conclude with the effigies being set ablaze, a ritual symbolizing the destruction of evil and the triumph of good over negative forces.
