Jackie Shroff honors filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee
Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff paid tribute to legendary filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee on the occasion of his 104th birth anniversary. Through a social media post, Shroff shared a portrait of the late director accompanied by the classic song ‘Itna Na Mujhse Tu Pyaar Badha’ from the 1961 film ‘Chhaya’.
Born in Calcutta on September 30, 1922, Mukherjee was a prominent filmmaker, editor, and screenwriter known for bridging the gap between mainstream commercial cinema and realistic parallel cinema. His work frequently focused on themes of family, morality, and the daily struggles of the Indian middle class.
Mukherjee began his career as an editor working with Bimal Roy before making his directorial debut with ‘Musafir’ in 1957. His extensive filmography includes classics such as ‘Anand’, ‘Gol Maal’, ‘Chupke Chupke’, and ‘Abhimaan’. His final directorial project was the 1998 film ‘Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate’.
