Jackie Stewart returns to Fuji for dementia charity gala

Sir Jackie Stewart returned to Fuji Speedway for a charity gala dinner titled ‘FUJI 60 — Racing for Memory’ on September 25. The event, held at the Fuji Speedway Hotel, was organized by Hersey Shiga Global K.K. in partnership with the FIA World Endurance Championship and the charity Race Against Dementia.

Stewart, a three-time Formula One World Champion, originally won the Fuji 200 Mile Race at the circuit in October 1966. The gala brought together approximately 105 guests, including motorsport professionals, drivers, and representatives from various business and cultural sectors.

During the evening, Sir Jackie was joined on stage by his son, Mark Stewart, the Chair of Trustees for Race Against Dementia. The charity, which Sir Jackie founded in 2016 following his wife’s dementia diagnosis, aims to apply motorsport principles such as teamwork and problem-solving to dementia research. Mark Stewart described the pursuit of a cure as a ‘long-distance endurance race’ requiring sustained effort and collaboration.
