Jackson City Council approves rezoning for YMCA redevelopment
The Jackson City Council has approved rezoning for the long-vacant YMCA on Fortification Street, transitioning the site from light industrial to community mixed-use. The developer, PraCon Global Investment Group, intends to transform the property into the Prado Conservatory, a mixed-use housing and recreation site.
The project plans to convert the existing YMCA building into approximately 60 multifamily units and construct a new five-story building containing roughly 100 additional units. The development is situated along the Pearl River, a location expected to see increased interest due to a proposed flood-control lake project, though the project remains subject to environmental impact studies and local debate regarding wildlife habitats and flood control alternatives.
