Jackson County wildfire burns over 1,000 acres

A fast-moving wildfire in Jackson County, Mississippi, has burned between 1,000 and 1,400 acres. The fire, which began Saturday evening near Bayou Cumbest, has prompted evacuations for several homes and the Orange Grove RV Park.

As of Monday morning, the fire is approximately 30% contained. Emergency response efforts include the Mississippi and Alabama Forestry Commissions, Jackson County Fire Protection, and crews from the Sandhill Crane Refuge. While the fire is near a refinery in Pascagoula, officials stated there are currently no concerns regarding the facility.

Smoke from the blaze has caused visibility issues on Interstate 10, and authorities have advised drivers to use caution. No injuries or structural damages have been reported at this time.
