Jackson family faces legal suit and new documentary as Michael biopic tops box office

Jermaine Jackson was ordered by a Los Angeles Superior Court to pay $6.5 million in damages to a woman who alleges he assaulted her in 1988, with a second accuser also filing a sworn declaration. The lawsuit resurfaced while the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” continues to break box‑office records, having earned more than $577 million worldwide.

At the same time, Netflix released the three‑part docuseries “Michael Jackson: The Verdict,” which revisits the singer’s 2005 criminal trial in Santa Maria. The series draws on archival footage and interviews with prosecutors, jurors and former associates, highlighting disputed evidence such as a nudist magazine allegedly found in the singer’s possession and the broader media frenzy surrounding the case.

Both developments have reignited public scrutiny of the Jackson family’s past controversies amid the current commercial success of the Michael Jackson film.
