Jacob deGrom reaches 2,000 career strikeouts
Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom became the 95th pitcher in MLB history to reach 2,000 career strikeouts during a game against the Washington Nationals. He achieved the milestone in his 272nd game and 1,661st inning pitched.
DeGrom’s achievement places him second all-time in speed to reach the mark by both games played and innings pitched. He trails only Randy Johnson in games (262) and Chris Sale in innings (1,626). During the milestone game, deGrom struck out the first two batters he faced and finished the outing with 10 strikeouts and one walk over six innings, allowing only one hit.
Despite recent struggles with injuries, including a second Tommy John surgery, deGrom’s career includes two NL Cy Young Awards, a 2014 NL Rookie of the Year title, and a 2023 World Series championship with the Rangers.
