Jacob Markström records shutout in return to Florida Panthers

Jacob Markström recorded a shutout in his first game back with the Florida Panthers, leading the team to a 1-0 overtime victory against the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes. The performance marked Markström’s first shutout in a Panthers jersey, occurring 18 years after his initial debut with the club.

Markström made 15 saves, including a critical stop on a breakaway by Sebastian Aho. The victory was secured by a goal from defenseman Gustav Forsling with five seconds remaining in overtime. Markström becomes only the third goaltender in Panthers history to record a shutout in a season opener.

Panthers coach Paul Maurice praised the veteran's performance, noting his ability to handle multiple Carolina power plays. Markström credited the team's defensive structure for making his job easier, stating, “Everyone, the whole lineup and, you know, all four lines and all six [defensemen] played really good, making my job a lot easier.”
