Jacob Melanson sidelined indefinitely with vascular aneurysm
The Seattle Kraken have announced that forward Jacob Melanson is out indefinitely following a diagnosis of an “anterior mediastinum hematoma with vascular pseudo aneurysm.” The injury occurred during the team’s season opener against the Calgary Flames on October 1.
Melanson, 23, sustained an upper-body injury during the game and was assessed by medical teams in Alberta. The team stated that due to the unique nature of the injury, Melanson will be closely monitored by medical staff in Seattle to oversee his healing process and eventual progression toward returning to hockey.
Melanson recorded 9:31 of ice time during the contest against the Flames. In his 36 games with Seattle last season, he recorded five points.
