Jacob Morley escapes Tennessee prison while serving life sentence

A manhunt is underway for 28-year-old Jacob Morley, a convicted murderer who escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee, late Sunday night. Security footage confirmed that Morley breached the perimeter fence and exited the facility while wearing his Tennessee Department of Correction uniform.

Morley is serving a life sentence following a conviction in Carter County for the 2022 murder of his co-worker, Cody Birchfield. His crimes also included aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence, evading arrest, and vandalism. Authorities noted that Birchfield's body was discovered in a box beneath Morley's home.

A multi-agency search involving local, state, and federal law enforcement is currently active in the rural area near the Mississippi River. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has added Morley to its Most Wanted list, offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to his capture. Officials describe him as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing approximately 240 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. Law enforcement advises the public not to approach him and to contact 911 immediately if spotted.
