Jacob Zuma hospitalized in Pietermaritzburg amid conflicting health reports

Former South African President Jacob Zuma, 84, is receiving medical treatment at Netcare St Anne’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. While the specific nature of his illness has not been officially disclosed, the hospitalization has led to conflicting reports regarding his condition.

President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy President Paul Mashatile have both publicly acknowledged that Zuma is unwell and wished him a speedy recovery. Ramaphosa noted that the military’s surgeon-general has been briefed on the situation.

In contrast, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has downplayed the severity of the situation. Party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu stated that Zuma is “healthy and in good spirits,” describing the visit as a routine medical check-up that occurs at least twice a year. The MK Party maintains that Zuma’s campaign schedule will proceed as planned, despite reports from local media suggesting his condition remains serious.
