Jacob Zuma’s daughter calls for investigation into security and medical care
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has called for an independent investigation into the security and medical oversight of her father, former South African President Jacob Zuma. In a letter addressed to Major General Wally Rhoode, she raised allegations regarding potential corruption and collusion between members of the Presidential Protection Unit and officials from the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
The allegations include claims that some officers may receive kickbacks or favors in exchange for influencing access to Zuma or overriding security protocols. Zuma-Sambudla also expressed concern that short-notice meetings may prevent security personnel from properly assessing venues.
Regarding medical care, Zuma-Sambudla questioned whether Zuma’s established medical team is being kept fully informed of treatments or substances administered by outside practitioners. This follows Zuma’s recent hospitalization in Pietermaritzburg after reportedly falling ill during a campaign event. While the MK Party described his condition as good, family members provided conflicting accounts of his health. The Presidency has since assigned the South African National Defence Force surgeon-general to oversee his treatment.
