Jacobina sports complex inauguration and Machadinho championship officialized in Brazil

Jacobina, Brazil, opened the Florentino Cardozo de Assunção Sobrinho Sports Complex on 15 May. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Sport Paulo Henrique Cordeiro, Mayor Valdice Castro and hundreds of residents. Cultural groups performed and football and basketball matches were held, highlighting the venue’s role in promoting sport, social inclusion and quality of life for the community.

In the subdistrict of Machadinho, the municipal council of Mariana approved Project Law 180/2026, officially adding the Campeonato Society de Machadinho to the city’s event calendar. The law designates March as the championship’s official month, recognizing its importance for local athletes and community integration while noting no budgetary impact.
