Jacona authorities honor fallen officers following regional violence

Authorities in Jacona, Michoacán, held a memorial service to honor two municipal police officers, Gerardo Mondragón Vitela and Mario Méndez Aguilar, who were killed in the line of duty. Mayor Isidoro Mosqueda pledged full support to the families of the fallen officers and emphasized continued coordination with the Mexican Army, National Guard, and state security forces to ensure community safety.

The memorial follows a series of violent incidents in the region that left six people dead and three injured. One attack targeted a patrol at a Civil Protection base, resulting in the deaths of two municipal officers and one civilian, while wounding a police officer, a first responder, and a woman. A separate confrontation with the Civil Guard resulted in three suspected aggressors being killed.

In response to the violence, security operations have been expanded into neighboring Zamora. During patrols in the Atecucario community, authorities seized motorcycles, weapons, ammunition, tactical clothing, communication equipment, and narcotics. These actions are part of a coordinated effort involving the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense, and local police to reinforce security in the area.
