Jacquard fabric returns to fashion prominence

Jacquard fabric is experiencing a resurgence in fashion, moving from formal evening wear and vintage tapestries into mainstream street style. Modern collections, including those from Zara, are incorporating the textured material into everyday items such as jackets, tops, trousers, dresses, and even denim.

Unlike printed patterns, jacquard refers to a weaving method where the design is integrated directly into the fabric structure. This technique creates a relief effect, providing depth and a rich visual texture. The method is named after Joseph Marie Jacquard, the French inventor who developed a loom mechanism in the early 19th century. His invention, which used perforated cards to control thread patterns, revolutionized the textile industry and is often cited as an early precursor to programmable computer systems.
