Jacquemain Shabani opens workshop in Uvira to restore state authority
Jacquemain Shabani, the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Security, Decentralization, and Customary Affairs, opened a three-day community reflection workshop in Uvira on Monday, September 21. The workshop is dedicated to the rapid restoration of state authority in the South Kivu province.
The initiative aims to strengthen the presence and functioning of public institutions in areas affected by security crises. The workshop serves as a platform for dialogue between various community components in South Kivu, allowing participants to express concerns and provide recommendations on restoring state authority. Key discussion topics include the situation of entities affected by insecurity, the issue of armed groups, population security, and the reconstruction of social cohesion.
South Kivu Governor Jean-Jacques Purusi noted that the meeting aims to continue consultations regarding the return of peace and the reinforcement of state authority in both South and North Kivu. The workshop brings together key provincial actors to discuss methods for achieving lasting stability and peace in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
