Jacques Doucet, legendary Montreal Expos broadcaster, dies at 86

Jacques Doucet, the legendary French-language broadcaster for the Montreal Expos and a Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, has died at the age of 86. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Martine, following a battle with various health issues, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Doucet served as the French voice of the Expos for over three decades, beginning with radio broadcasts in 1972. He was widely credited with developing a specialized glossary of baseball terms to help French-speaking fans understand the sport. In his later career, he broadcast Toronto Blue Jays games in French and called more than 5,500 major league games before retiring in 2022.

The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame noted his significant impact on the sport in Canada and his support for grassroots baseball in Quebec. His passing has drawn widespread tributes from the baseball community and fans across Quebec.
