Jacques Houdek and Ivana Kindl clash over vocal critique
A public dispute has escalated within the Croatian music scene following singer Jacques Houdek’s criticism of Duška Brčić-Šušak’s vocal performance at the ‘Trag u beskraju’ event in Vela Luka. Houdek characterized Brčić-Šušak’s voice as ‘bolestan glas’ (a sick voice), sparking significant debate among colleagues and the public.
Ivana Kindl intervened to defend Brčić-Šušak, suggesting that professional advice should be given privately rather than through public commentary to avoid media sensationalism. Kindl expressed her support for the younger singer, stating she does not agree with the assessment of her voice.
Houdek responded sharply to Kindl’s comments, questioning her knowledge of vocal pedagogy. He cited his own years of advanced training with vocal experts in Italy to defend his expertise and suggested that Kindl’s involvement was motivated by self-promotion.
