Jade Kops honored with storm name for upcoming season

The tenth storm of the upcoming autumn and winter season has been named Jade, in honor of Jade Kops, a 19-year-old influencer who passed away from cancer in April. The decision was made by the KNMI in coordination with the British Met Office and Ireland's Met Éireann, which collectively manage the annual storm name list for the North Sea region.

More than 500 people voted for the name Jade. René Kops, the father of Jade Kops, described the gesture as a “beautiful tribute” to his daughter.

The list for the season contains 21 names in alphabetical order, intended to increase public awareness and make weather warnings more recognizable on social and traditional media. The first storm of the season is named Austen, chosen by Ireland, followed by Boelo. Other names on the list include Dano, Gwendolyn, Olaf, Vesna, and Wende.
