Jadro water purifier construction advances near Split

Construction of the Jadro drinking water purifier in Majdan is in an advanced stage, with completion and the start of trial operations expected during the summer of next year. The project aims to secure high-quality drinking water for approximately 250,000 residents in Split, Solin, and the surrounding areas, addressing issues with water turbidity following heavy rainfall.

Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta noted that the project is being realized with European Union non-refundable funds and is intended to be one of the best purifiers in the European Union. In addition to the Jadro project, investments are being made in wastewater treatment and water supply infrastructure across the Split, Solin, and Kaštela agglomeration.

Ivica Perić, director of Vodovode i kanalizacije Split, reported that more than half of the construction work is complete, with plans to finish the external structure and roofing by the end of the year. However, the project may lead to a roughly 20 percent increase in water fees for local residents. Currently, the water supply network loses nearly 60 percent of its water, a figure consistent with the Croatian national average. Authorities are also studying alternative water sources, such as the Ruda River and Perućko Lake, to reduce total reliance on the Jadro River.
