Jaecoo achieves international sales growth amid design comparisons

The Chinese automotive brand Jaecoo, part of the Chery Automobile Group, is experiencing significant sales growth in international markets. The Jaecoo 7 has reached the top ten vehicle registrations in the Czech Republic and has become a top-selling model in the United Kingdom.

In the UK, the Jaecoo 7 has earned the nickname “Temu Range Rover” due to its boxy exterior styling, which consumers frequently compare to British luxury SUVs. Steve Eum, executive technical adviser for global design at Chery, defended the aesthetic, stating that “good design is simply good design” and noting that automotive design often relies on traditional silhouettes.

In South Africa, the Jaecoo J5 continues to compete in the compact SUV segment. The model offers a petrol-powered 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and has recently expanded its lineup to include a hybrid option to address consumer fuel concerns. The vehicle is noted for its interior technology and practical cabin space.
