Jael Argüelles Presses Mexico's Health Secretary Over Hospital Gender Violence
Deputy Jael Argüelles Díaz of the Morena party presented a 32‑question questionnaire to Health Secretary Gilberto Baeza, demanding detailed answers on complaints of sexual harassment, workplace harassment, gender‑based violence and institutional violence reported in hospitals across the state of Chihuahua. The inquiry seeks the number of complaints filed between 2023 and 2026, the status of investigations, any sanctions imposed, protection mechanisms for victims and the results of policies aimed at preventing such abuse. Argüelles cited specific cases at Hospital General Dr. Javier Ramírez Topete, Hospital General Dr. Salvador Zubirán Anchondo and the Central Hospital, and criticized remarks that some complaints were “ambiguous,” warning that such language can revictimize complainants. She called for transparent accountability to ensure justice for health‑care workers and patients.
The deputy emphasized that women should not have to prove their suffering to be heard and that the state must investigate, protect and guarantee justice.
