Jagadish Krishnan sued in US over alleged $1 million unpaid loan

West Australian Labor MP Jagadish Krishnan is facing a lawsuit in a New Jersey court filed by businessman Kannan Amalraj and his company, Kenyan Consulting LLC. The plaintiff alleges that Krishnan failed to repay a loan totaling approximately US$655,000, which was secured during a trip to the United States in May 2024. Including interest, the lawsuit seeks a total of US$1.2 million.

Amalraj claims the funds were requested to address a critical financial situation regarding Spectrum Health, a GP network in which Krishnan was a major shareholder. The lawsuit details various expenses allegedly covered by the plaintiff, including limousine services, accommodation, and a Hudson River cruise.

Krishnan has vowed to vigorously defend the lawsuit and has initiated defamation proceedings against Amalraj in the WA Supreme Court. The legal dispute follows emails sent by the plaintiff to high-profile Western Australian figures, including Premier Roger Cook. Additionally, Krishnan has faced scrutiny regarding whether he met parliamentary disclosure obligations for gifts and travel received during the 2024 US trip, though he maintains he has met all requirements.
