Jagalur BJP workers hold bandh over drought list exclusion
BJP workers in Jagalur, Karnataka, staged a bandh to protest the taluk's exclusion from the state government's official list of drought-hit areas. The protest resulted in the disruption of vehicular traffic and the shutdown of business activities at the Jagalur APMC.
Former BJP MLA SV Ramachandrappa criticized the decision, stating that the region has faced drought for decades and lacks major water sources. He noted that local farmers depend entirely on rainfall, and recent lack of rain has caused previously sown crops to dry up.
Ramachandrappa highlighted a previous water project involving 57 lakes that received ₹777 crore in funding under the guidance of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Shivakumara Swamiji of Sirigere. He emphasized that the region has historically faced water scarcity for much of its history.
