Jagannath Temple holds ₹1,912 crore in deposits and 60,821 acres of land

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has disclosed significant financial and land assets held by the 12th-century shrine in Puri, Odisha. As of August 31, the temple holds approximately ₹1,912 crore in bank deposits. This includes ₹1,811.10 crore in fixed deposits across three schemes—with ₹1,311.10 crore in public sector banks and a ₹500 crore corpus fund provided by the Odisha government—and roughly ₹100.71 crore in savings, current, and flexi accounts.

In addition to cash reserves, the temple owns 60,821 acres of land across India. The vast majority, 60,426 acres, is located within 24 districts of Odisha, while 395 acres are spread across six other states, including West Bengal. The temple also maintains a 'Ratna Bhandar' containing gold, diamonds, and other precious ornaments, which is currently undergoing an inventory process for the first time in 48 years.

Revenue is generated through devotee donations, earnings from temple-owned mines and quarries, interest on deposits, land transactions, and government grants. To enhance transparency, the SJTA publishes daily donation counts from the temple hundi on notice boards and social media. The administration also recently launched 'Samarpan', a digital donation platform, which has collected over ₹56.7 lakh since its July launch.
