Jagex removes RuneScape trailer following use of generative AI

Jagex has removed a promotional trailer for the RuneScape 3 Dragon Slayer 2 quest after players identified several generative AI artifacts. Users on Reddit pointed out visual errors, including a character with six fingers and footwear that resembled modern sneakers rather than traditional medieval boots.

In a statement, Jagex clarified that the trailer was produced by a “trusted external partner” who had explicitly promised not to use generative AI. The studio noted that this is the second recent instance where AI concerns arose through trusted partners, including a previous collaboration with 100 Thieves.

Jagex leadership emphasized that the company does not use generative AI for its games, artwork, or marketing materials. To prevent future occurrences, the developer announced it is overhauling its review processes and intends to work with community creators to ensure future updates meet their standards of human artistry.
