Jagga Smith Leads Carlton Toward AFL Rising Star Contention

Jagga Smith has recorded 129 score involvements in his first 20 AFL games, matching Geelong legend Joel Selwood for the most by a young player. The tally puts Smith ahead of Jesse Hogan, Cyril Rioli and Isaac Heeney on the leaderboard for emerging talent.

Against the Brisbane Lions, Smith collected 29 possessions, six clearances and kicked two goals – his first multi‑goal game – taking his season total to seven and earning the Robert Walls Medal. Former AFL great James Hird praised Smith’s impact, saying his play allows teammates Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh to perform at their best. Smith and fellow youngster Harry Dean are both strong candidates for the AFL Rising Star award.
