Jagoš Marković’s ‘Ćelava pjevačica’ Celebrates 50th Performance in Tivat

The theatre production “Ćelava pjevačica”, directed by Jagoš Marković, marked its 50th staging on 23 May at the Great Hall of the Cultural Centre in Tivat, Montenegro. The play, an adaptation of Eugene Jones’s drama by Neven Staničić, relocates the story to the Bay of Kotor and infuses it with local Boke dialect and Mediterranean rhythm. Audience members described the atmosphere as intimate and home‑like, noting that the performance resonated equally with local spectators and those from other towns such as Niš.

Actors Branko Vidaković, Olga Odanović and other cast members, many originally from Belgrade, highlighted the challenge of mastering the Boke speech but praised the collaborative energy that brought the director’s vision to life. The milestone underscores Marković’s long‑standing commitment to portraying Boke culture on stage and his ability to unite the ensemble around a distinct regional identity.
