Jaguar cub rescued in Michoacán, woman detained for illegal possession

State authorities in Michoacán rescued an eight‑month‑old male jaguar cub in the municipality of Zitácuaro after stopping a Volkswagen Tiguan transporting the animal. The driver, identified as Itzamar V., 33, could not produce the required permits for the protected species, and was detained along with the vehicle.

The cub was transferred to the Morelia Zoo, where veterinarians are conducting health and behavioral assessments. The seizure is part of a broader investigation by the Michoacán Fiscalía General del Estado into illegal wildlife possession and potential trafficking, following a recent rescue of a Bengal tiger cub in the state.
